Stansted Airport to Seville Spain
The budget airline Ryanair has
recently started a daily service between London Stansted and Seville
with a flight time of around 2 hours. The airport, named Aeropuerto
San Pablo, is just 7km (4 miles) from the city centre
along the A4 Cordoba
road. On weekdays there is a half-hourly bus service between the
arrivals terminal and Puerta de Jerez in the city centre with a journey
time of around 30 to 40 minutes. This service is reduced at weekends
and holidays with only 15 buses each way daily. A typical taxi ride
from the airport to the centre costs between 15 and 18
euros, although
it is advisable to check with the driver beforehand. Seville is the
capital of the Andalucia region in Southern Spain. It is renowned for
its fantastic architecture, which includes Islamic, Gothic and
Renaissance styles, along with its lively nightlife and famous Feria de
Abril (April Fair). It is best to avoid visiting Seville in the summer
months – especially July and August – as the heat can be unbearable.
Popular tourist attractions and events in Seville include:
- Cathedral -
This enormous Gothic structure is one of the largest cathedrals in the
world. Its construction was started in 1401 and not completed until
1507. The cathedral replaced the 12th century Amohad mosque, of which
all that remains is the 90-metre-tall minaret, known as La Giralda
tower. There are great views of the city from the top of La Giralda.
- Alcazar -
The Alcazar palace, located south of the cathedral, is one of Seville’s
must-see attractions. Constructed by the Moors in the 10th century, it
has been added to and altered ever since. The Catholic monarchs,
Ferdinand and Isabella, welcomed back Christopher Columbus after his
discovery of the New World in the impressive Salon de Embajadores. Also
worth seeing are the Alcazar’s beautiful gardens.
- Feria de
Abril (April Fair) - This is the most spectacular of all Andalucia’s
ferias, with six nights of dancing, drinking, eating and music. There
are also parades of horses and carriages through the city every
afternoon.
- Semana Santa (Easter week) - During Semana Santa
from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday there are great processions, some
lasting more than an hour, through the streets of Seville to the
cathedral. Each procession depicts different scenes from the Easter
story.
- Isla Magica - If you are travelling with children you
may want to visit the Isla Magica theme park, situated in the north of
the city. There are a couple of great roller coasters to try out - El
Jaguar and the Anaconda.
